The procedure is being used widely now in Europe and studies have show that over a period of 8 years there have been very few cases of continuing progression of keratoconus. The general feeling is now that yes, it does work. However, no-one can hand on heart say this is a permanent solution or that there will not be unexpected side effects in years to come. Often, side effects are not found until 30 or 40 years after a procedure is adopted and people have to weight pros and cons in their own situation before they make the best decision they can under the circumstances.
